Abstract (eng): | This Master's thesis is an analysis of impacts of light emitting diodes (LED) in saving energy and reducing CO2 emissions in Finland in 2020, 2030 and 2050. The main focus of this thesis is on households. The present situation and future views on lighting energy savings of office and outdoor lighting in Finland are presented in short. The office and outdoor sector reviews are based on literature research and expert interviews, for outdoor lighting also a questionnaire survey. For years 2020 and 2030 household lighting energy consumption and savings are calculated for three levels of LED penetration: low, moderate and high. For the 2050 calculations are done only for one level of LED penetration (100 %). For the purpose of this study, a survey and a group interview was done for the Finnish Transport Agency and a group of cities covering almost 30 % of the Finnish population (UV7 Group). According to UV7, only around 20 % of outdoor lighting will be done with LEDs in the next 20-30 years. LEOs are still in an intensive development phase and are not yet considered attractive investments. There is little accurate and detailed information available on the current situation of office lighting in Finland. Currently LEDs are not much used in office lighting. According to the analysis of this study, using LEDs can significantly reduce the current household lighting energy use in Finland during 2020-2050. By switching into LED lighting (l00 %), current household lighting energy use (2,4 TWhla) could be decreased by 1,9 TWhla (80 %) in twenty years. Reducing current household lighting energy use by 1,9 TWhla means a 2,2 % reduction from the current total annual electricity use in Finland (87,3 TWhla). In the current electricity production structure, a reduction of 1,9 TWh of energy use means a reduction of 420 000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. The quicker the energy production structure shifts towards carbon neutrality, the less measures done for saving energy, such as switching to LED lighting, affect the level of CO2 emissions. |
Abstract (fin): | Tässä diplomityössä analysoidaan loistediodien (LED, light emitting diode) vaikutusta sähkönkulutukseen ja CO2-päästöihin Suomessa 2020, 2030 ja 2050. Pääpaino työssä on kotitalouksissa. Vaihtamalla LED-valaistukseen (l00 %) seuraavan kahdenkymmenen vuoden aikana tämänhetkistä kotitalouksien valaistusenergian kulutusta (2,4 TWh/a) voidaan vähentää 1,9 TWh/a (80 %). 1,9 TWh:n vähennys kotitalousvalaistuksen kulutuksesta vähentäisi Suomen tämänhetkistä kokonaissähkönkulutusta (87,3 TWh/a) 2,2 %. Nykyisellä tuotantorakenteella 1,9 TWh:n kotitalousvalaistuksen energiansäästö vastaa 420 000 tonnia CO2 päästöjä. Mitä nopeammin tulevaisuuden energiantuotantorakenne muuntuu hiilineutraaliksi, sitä vähemmän energiansäästötoimet, kuten LEDien käyttöön siirtyminen, vaikuttavat CO2-päästöihin. |
