Reading digital theses in the closed network of the Aalto University Harald Herlin Learning Centre

You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): In recent years due to increased human awareness global warming and various environmental issues caused by the human activities, an increased interest has been observed in adopting renewable energy sources and more efficient processes for climate change mitigation.
Synthesis gas which is a mixture of CO and H2 with other impurities is product of gasification process.
Biomass is increasingly used as a raw material in gasification process but the synthesis gas thus produced has varying content of impurities such as NOx, SOx, COS, H2S, CO2.
In this project a unique approach is adopted to produce clean synthesis gas for power generation or hydrogen production and also to adjust synthesis gas for the production of other useful chemicals and fuels.

For this process simple air based gasifier can be used.
The impurities contained in the formed synthesis gas are absorbed at air or under elevated pressure to basic solution that contain bicarbonates or hydroxides.
The CO present in the syngas reacts with the basic solution and produce formate.
The formate solution formed can be thermally decomposed to H2, CO or formaldehyde while the salts of the impurities are retained in the solution.
The salts produced in the thermal decomposition can be recycled back directly to the formate manufacturing step.
The process is quite economical to integrate in the existing large scale chemical plants that consume hydrogen as a raw material.
The production cost for hydrogen by this process is nearly 2 kEUROS/t and payback period is about 5 years.
The impurities are separated by converting into suitable products.
