You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): This Thesis introduces methods for extracting meaningful quantities from data generated by Elsi-floor sensor system, which tracks the movements of people with near field imaging technology.
Of particular interest is detecting changes in these quantities, which may result from a change in the person's health status.

Data used in the analysis is acquired from Kustaankartano nursing home and it consisted of location data from rooms in which the elderly residents live.
Extracted quantities associated with activity included walked distance, average speed, number of visits in bathroom, and number of times getting up from bed.
Additional information regarding residents' health changes was obtained through interviews with the nurses.

Processing the data included transforming XML formatted data into quantities of activity and analysing the transformed data using methods of data mining.
The methods involved dimension reduction and creating variables which could be used for detecting changes in activity.
As a result, multiple techniques were discovered which were capable of detecting changes in a person's activity.
Abstract (fin): Tässä diplomityössä on selvitetty, miten Elsi-anturilattian tuottamasta paikkatiedosta voidaan erottaa vanhuksen aktiivisuuteen liittyvää tietoa.
Erityisesti kiinnostuksen kohteena on tunnistaa aktiivisuudessa tapahtuva muutos, joka saattaa olla merkki terveydellisestä muutoksesta.
Automatisoidun aktiivisuusseurannan avulla on mahdollista huomata muutos asukkaan terveydessä ajoissa, jolloin hoito voidaan aloittaa aiemmin.

Työssä on käytetty aineistona Elsi-anturilattian tuottaman datan lisäksi Kustaankartanon vanhainkodin asukkaiden omahoitajien haastatteluja, joihin anturilattiadatan perusteella havaittuja muutoksia voidaan verrata.
Raakadatasta erotettuja aktiivisuuteen liittyviä suureita ovat kävelty matka, keskimääräinen kävelynopeus, vuoteesta nousujen lukumäärä ja WC-käyntien lukumäärä.
Datan jalostus koostui osaksi XML-muotoisen datan muuntamisesta aktiivisuussuureiksi ja osaksi aktiivisuussuureista saatavan datan analysoinnista tiedon louhinnan menetelmin.
Menetelmiin kuului datan dimension pudotus ja muutoksen tunnistavien suureiden luominen.

Tutkimuksen perusteella löydettiin useita datan analysointimenetelmiä, joiden avulla tunnetut muutokset ovat havaittavissa myös anturilattian tuottaman datan perusteella.
