Abstract (eng): The purpose of this master's thesis is to map out the end use of household electronics in a student campus village.
The aim was to find out what kinds of appliances are found in students households and what the consumer habits of the students are like.

In the literature part the electricity use of Finnish and Swedish households is reviewed, as is the typical power consumption of consumer electronics.
Especially the power consumption of computers is of great interest, as the calculating power of computers rises rapidly each year.
The experimental part of the study was carried out by measuring the power consumption of consumer electronics in volunteer households and by an online-survey in the student campus village.
The survey mapped the consumer electronics appliances in the campus village and the consumer habits of the students.

The most popular consumer electronics appliances were computers and mobile phones, when in a typical Finnish household they are mobile phones and TV's.
Some students may have several computers running around the clock and most of the time in idle mode.

Consumer electronics, computers in particular, have a great impact on student household's power consumption.
The electricity use in idle mode can equal the use of electricity of a typical Finnish household.
Abstract (fin): Tässä diplomityössä tutkitaan opiskelijakylän kulutuselektroniikan käyttötapoja.

Erityisen tarkastelun kohteena on tietotekniikka, jonka tehokkuus kasvaa vuosittain merkittävästi.
