Abstract (eng): | Ever increasing demands for energy efficiency in buildings are putting pressure on improving building-related technologies. Continuously decreasing ventilation and enve-lope heat losses have resulted in an increase in the domestic hot water's (DHW) share of buildings' delivered energy consumption. The objectives of this work are to investigate factors affecting the delivered energy to the DHW system of an apartment block and to find ways of improving the system's energy efficiency. DHW use has the greatest impact on the overall DHW system's energy consumption. Influencing consumer habits by guidance, installing low-flow water taps and apartment-specific water meters with individual billing, and regulating the pressure in the network can all contribute to achieving significant energy savings. In centralized DHW systems, delivered energy also accounts for DHW circulation heat losses and the circulation pump's electricity demand. According to the calculation re-sults, increasing the insulation thickness beyond the Finnish Building Code's recom-mended value does not significantly reduce circulation heat losses. Results show that the pipe network material does not have a great influence over the circulation heat loss-es. By lowering the Finnish regulation's DHW temperature levels by 5 °C, circulation heat losses could be decreased by 14 %. The DHW circulation pump only consumes 10 % of the circulation's total delivered energy demand. Replacing the circulation pump with an EC-motor would reduce the pump's electricity consumption by about 80 %. In dis-trict heated buildings, centralized DHW systems appear to be more energy efficient than having electrically heated hot-water tank systems in each apartment. Circulation losses can also be affected by the piping network's architecture. Especially with sub-distribution manifold architecture, DHW circulation pipe length and network heat losses can be reduced. Delivered energy for a DHW system can be effectively reduced by using solar collec-tors, heat pumps and heat recovery. By lowering the temperature levels in the hot-water tank, efficiencies of solar collectors and heat pumps can be significantly improved. Ac-cording to simulation results, it is difficult to cover more than 50 % of the DHW in a block of flats in Finland with solar collectors due to technical limitations. |
Abstract (fin): | Rakennuksien alati tiukentuvat energiatehokkuusvaatimukset asettavat paineita ener-giatehokkaiden taloteknisten ratkaisuiden kehittämiselle. Ilmanvaihdon ja rakennuksen ulkovaipan lämpöhäviöiden jatkuvasti pienentyessä LKV-järjestelmän osuus rakennuk-sen ostoenergiankulutuksesta on kasvanut merkittävästi. Tämän työn tavoitteina onkin selvittää asuinkerrostalon LKV-järjestelmän ostoenergiankulutukseen vaikuttavia teki-jöitä ja löytää keinoja järjestelmän energiatehokkuuden parantamiseksi. LKV:n käytöllä on suurin vaikutus LKV-järjestelmän energiankulutukseen. Si-muloinneista saaduista tuloksista päätellen asuinkerrostalon aurinkokeräinjärjestelmäl-lä on teknisistä rajoitteista päätellen hyvin hankalaa tuottaa yli 50 % LKV:stä Suomessa. |
