Abstract (eng): The unprecedented popularity of poker has attracted interest in research of the game strategy among players and researchers interested in game theory.
Yet little academic research has been done on this matter.

In this thesis the commonly used strategies are analyzed, limited in No- Limit Texas Hold'em cash games with six players.
These strategies are evaluated using game and probability theory.
My personal experience of these games is also utilized.

In this thesis the major factors affecting decision-making are presented.
Especially the effect of position and the playing styles of opponents are often considered, as these effects are commonly underestimated.

Starting hands are categorized in real hands and speculative hands in order to emphasize the strategic differences between starting hands.
At flop, turn and river the typical strategies of each phase are evaluated.

The importance of aggressive and straight-forward play is emphasized in this thesis.
The essential deceptive techniques are presented, but the reader is warned about the incorrect usage of these techniques.

The perspective of this thesis is analytic and theoretic.
The reader should probably have some experience in poker to understand the thoughts presented in this thesis.
Abstract (fin): Pokeripelien ennennäkemätön suosio on herättänyt kiinnostusta pelin strategian tutkimiseen sekä pelaajien että peliteoriasta kiinnostuneiden tutkijoiden keskuudessa.
Silti pelistä on tehty varsin vähän akateemista tutkimusta.

Tässä työssä analysoidaan yleisesti käytettyjä strategioita rajattuna kuuden pelaajan No-Limit Texas Hold'em -käteispeleihin.
Näitä strategioita arvioidaan peliteorian ja todennäköisyyslaskennan avulla.
Hyödynnän myös omaa kokemustani näistä peleistä.

Työssä tuodaan esille päätöksentekoon vaikuttavia keskeisiä tekijöitä.
Erityisesti position ja vastustajien pelityylin vaikutusta pohditaan usein, koska näiden vaikutus on yleisesti aliarvioitu.

Aloituskäsille esitetään luokittelu reaalikäsiin ja spekulatiivisiin käsiin, jonka tarkoitus on korostaa aloituskäsien strategisia eroja.
Flopilla, turnilla ja riverillä arvioidaan kullekin vaiheelle ominaisia strategioita.

Työssä korostetaan aggressiivisen ja suoraviivaisen pelin tärkeyttä.
Keskeiset hämäystekniikat esitellään, mutta lukijaa varoitetaan näiden tekniikoiden väärästä käytöstä.

Työssä käytetty näkökulma peliin on analyyttinen ja jopa teoreettinen.
Lukijalla on todennäköisesti oltava hieman kokemusta pokerista työssä esitettyjen ajatusten ymmärtämiseksi.
