Reading digital theses in the closed network of the Aalto University Harald Herlin Learning Centre

You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): Current workplace research is mainly focused on studying the effect of one factor to another and literature lacks a comprehensive study where office workplace is discussed as an entirety.
Workplace is a complex construction of divergent elements, which are connected to each other with various relationships and thus, should not be oversimplified.
The quality of workplace is evaluated from two perspectives: the user organisation perspective and employee perspective.

This study aims to evaluate the workplace as an entirety and identify components of good workplace, which can be used as a basis for workplace certification framework.
The research answers to following research questions:.

1.
Which are the components of good office workplace?

2.
Which are the key components of office workplace certification?

3.
What kind of benefits the office workplace certification produces for the user organisation?

The study was conducted with an addictive reasoning approach, including literature review and empirical study performed by semi-structured interviews.
Theoretical framework for workplace certification was developed from the literature review, which was subsequently refined using the empirical study results.
The interviews entailed a weak market test for the workplace certification practice.

The quality and goodness of office workplace is based on workplace's ability to support organisation's core business and work processes, and on the conformity with organisational objectives and management practices.
In addition, workplace has to satisfy certain human needs in order to enable working in the environment.
Key components of good workplace comprise the foundation for the workplace certification framework.
Other identified components were individual components of different workplace elements: the physical element, the virtual element, the social element and the financial element.
The benefits provided by workplace certification were recognized to mainly improve user organisation processes and decision making.
The weak market test indicated that workplace certification could be used for benchmarking and as a guideline.
Abstract (fin): Nykyinen työympäristötutkimus on keskittynyt pääosin selvittämään yhden tekijän vaikutusta toiseen, ja kirjallisuudesta puuttuu tutkimus, jossa toimistotyöympäristöä käsitellään kokonaisuutena.
Työympäristö on monipuolinen rakennelma joka koostuu erilaisista tekijöistä, jotka ovat yhteydessä toisiinsa monimutkaisilla vuorovaikutussuhteilla, joita ei tulisi yksinkertaistaa liikaa.
Työympäristön laatua arvioidaan kahdesta näkökulmasta; joko käyttäjäorganisaation näkökulmasta, tai yksittäisen käyttäjän näkökulmasta.
Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on arvioida työympäristön laatua kokonaisuudessaan, ja tunnistaa hyvän työympäristön tekijöitä, joita käyttämällä työympäristösertifioinnin viitekehys voidaan rakentaa.
Tutkimus vastaa seuraaviin tutkimuskysymyksiin:.

Mitkä ovat hyvän työympäristön tekijät?

2.
Mitkä ovat työympäristösertifioinnin keskeiset tekijät?

3.
Mitä hyötyjä työympäristösertifiointi tuottaa käyttäjäorganisaatiolle?

Tutkimus toteutettiin soveltamalla abduktiivista lähestymistapaa, jossa käytettiin hyväksi kirjallisuustutkimusta ja empiiristä tutkimusta, joka toteutettiin puolistrukturoiduin haastatteluin.
Toimistotyöympäristösertifioinnin teoreettinen viitekehys muodostettiin kirjallisuustutkimuksen pohjalta, jota jalostettiin myöhemmin empiiristen tutkimustulosten pohjalta.
Haastatteluissa toteutettiin myös työympäristösertifioinnille heikko markkinatutkimus.

Toimistotyöympäristön laatu perustuu työympäristön kykyyn tukea organisaation ydinliiketoimintaa ja työprosesseja, sekä miten yhdenmukainen työympäristö on organisaation tavoitteiden ja johtamisen kanssa.
Tämän lisäksi, työympäristön on täytettävä tietyt ihmisen tarpeet, jotta työympäristö mahdollistaa työn teon.
Hyvän työympäristön keskeiset tekijät muodostavat työympäristösertifioinnin viitekehyksen.
Muut tunnistetut tekijät olivat yksittäisiä tekijöitä, jotka liittyivät tiettyyn työympäristöelementtiin; fyysiseen, virtuaaliseen, sosiaaliseen tai taloudelliseen työympäristöön.
Työympäristösertifioinnin nähtiin tuottavan hyötyjä pääosin käyttäjäorganisaation prosesseihin ja päätöksentekoon.
Heikko markkinatesti osoitti, että sertifiointia voitaisiin käyttää ohjenuorana sekä työympäristöjen vertailussa.
