Abstract (eng): | This thesis examines the issues encountered in the multidisciplinary engineering data management from the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) platform i.e. Product Data Management (PDM) application point of view. This platform is the first place in which the disciplines engineering data encounters. However, it lacks any indication of cross-disciplinary connections between structures. The goal setting of this thesis was to examine possible solutions through a literature review in the field of PLM including both the latest research and commercially available solutions. Based on the research a well-justified concept proposal needs to be formed. The concept proposal must represent the best available practises and be implementable in the sponsoring company's environment. The study is restricted to mechanical and electrical engineering in order to enable detailed enough concept creation. The research part stars with an overview on PLM and related concepts. As described in literature PLM is a holistic approach including high-level concepts and methodologies rather than providing any exact tools and guidelines. For this reason a major part of the research concentrates on finding these tools from the engineering methodologies. In this part such methods as Computer integrated Manufacturing (CIM), Concurrent Engineering (CE) and Systems Engineering is examined. As the nature of PLM applications is such that the development is pulled by the forerunners in the field the overview on the commercially available solution is also made. Based on the finding from the research a concept proposal is formed. Development of the actual solution is planned to take place according to this concept proposal and thus it is represented to the engineering personnel in interviews. Purpose of the interviews is to evaluate how big issues we are struggling with and how much effort should be put for solving them. Furthermore how well does this concept proposal answer these differing needs of different products? The concept is but to further test in a case study with an actual product. The case study phases are: selecting a suitable product, raw concept proposal development, demonstration and feedback. As a result of this thesis, the sponsoring company has a justified and tested concept proposal for solving issues of multidisciplinary engineering data management. |
Abstract (fin): | Tässä työssä tutkitaan poikkitieteellisen suunnittelun mukanaan tuomia haasteita tuotetiedon hallinnan näkökulmasta. Tutkimusosio alkaa katsauksella tuotetiedon hallintaan yleisesti. Termi tuotteen elinkaaren hallinta (PLM) on hyvin kokonaisvaltainen keräten alleen laajan kentän yhteenkuuluvia konsepteja. Tutkimuksen pohjalta muodostuu konseptiehdotelma. Tuotetiedon ohjelmiston kehityksen on määrä alkaa tämän ehdotuksen pohjalta joten sitä halutaan esitellä tuotteiden suunnittelijoille ja tuotepäälliköille. Haastattelemalla pyritään selvittämään kuinka suuri ongelma kyseessä on ja kuinka paljon sen ratkaisuun siten kannattaa käyttää resursseja. Erityisesti kiinnostaa kuinka hyvin konseptiehdotelma vastaa erilaisten tuotteiden tarpeisiin. Konseptia testataan lisäksi oikealla tuotteella. Tämän tutkimuksen vaiheet ovat: sopivan tuotteen valinta, konseptin raakaversion kehitys tuotetiedon hallinnan järjestelmään, ratkaisun esittely ja palaute. Tämän työn lopputuloksena sponsoroiva yritys saa perustellun ja testatun konseptiehdotelman jolla ratkaistaan poikkitieteellisen suunnittelutiedon hallintaan liittyviä ongelmia. |
