You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): The amount of packet data in mobile cellular networks has increased drastically in the past few years.
The impact of packet core network delays to radio system performance, however, has not been studied comprehensively.
This thesis focuses to packet core network delays and their impacts in handover procedures in UMTS and LTE networks.

The response of cell performance and the single user throughput to the delays was key topic of the study.
The cell performance was derived deductively by analysing selected network implementations and the relevant procedures.
The single user throughput case was studied with simple Matlab simulations in macro and micro cell scenarios.

Core network delays in handovers have no impact on the cell level performance in both UMTS and LTE.
The simulation results indicate that the impact of the delays to the single user throughput is almost negligible if the delay values are less than 25 ms.
The throughput degradation increases almost linearly as a function of the delay.
Abstract (fin): Pakettidatan määrä mobiiliverkoissa on kasvanut jyrkästi viime vuosien aikana.
Pakettirunkoverkon viiveiden vaikutuksia radioverkon suorituskykyyn ei kuitenkaan ole alan kirjallisuudessa juuri tutkittu.
Tässä diplomityössä tutkittiin pakettirunkoverkon viiveiden vaikutusta verkonvaihdoissa sekä UMTS- että LTE -verkoissa.

Työssä tutkittiin viiveiden vaikutusta sekä solun suorituskykyyn että yksittäisen käyttäjän bittinopeuteen.
Viiveiden vaikutusta solun suorituskykyyn tutkittiin analysoimalla verkon toteutusta sekä keskeisiä proseduureja.
Viiveiden vaikutusta yksittäisen käyttäjän bittinopeuteen tutkittiin yksinkertaisilla Matlab pohjaisilla simulaatioilla makro- ja mikrosolu ympäristöissä.

Pakettirunkoverkon viiveillä ei ole vaikutusta solun suorituskykyyn UMTS eikä LTE -verkoissa.
Viiveen vaikutus yksittäiselle käyttäjälle on lähes olematon kun viive on alle 25 ms.
Käyttäjän bittinopeus laskee likimain lineaarisesti runkoverkon viiveen kasvaessa.
