Abstract (eng): | In Finland cargo transport is mainly carried out by different kinds of heavy vehicles. Every year almost 200 heavy vehicles rollover. Because of the huge mass and cargo in a vehicle accidents may cause financial damage, injuries or damage to the environment. Thus it is necessary to find road sections which could cause loss of control. Mainly rollovers are singular events where personal injuries are avoided. Every year the road surface profile of about 30 000 lane kilometres is measured in Finland. Through the so called service level measurements the road surface profile can be determined very well. The condition of the road is estimated by 32 different parameters, such as the risk of strong rolling. Knowing the exact road profile enables an extensive use of the results. This research focuses on how to use that information to find the road sections hazardous for heavy vehicles. The main aim was to introduce a new method, which could find hazardous road sections through road surface profile measurements. This research includes four previous methods used to estimate how strongly a heavy vehicle is rolling on a selected road section. The Rut Bottom Cross Slope Variance (RBCSV) and Truck Ride Index (TRI) are based on estimating the road cross slope when the Load Transfer Ratio (LTR) and Dynamic Stability Index (DSI) are based on vehicle dynamics. By Matlab/Simulink a heave vehicle model was made. By measuring the rolling of a real vehicle the heavy vehicle model was verified. The aim was to test with the help of the model how well the different methods correspond to the real situation. A new method describing the heave vehicle rolling was developed in this research. The method is based on the frequency of the road cross slope. It was shown that the filtered cross slope average amplitude correlates well with heavy vehicle rolling. Hazardous road sections were found by the heavy vehicle model. The same road sections were also found by the new method. According to the presently used methods some road segments showed no risk of strong rolling, whereas the new method revealed hazardous sections in the same sections. Using the information of the service level measurements and the new method we are able to find hazardous road sections for heavy vehicles. Knowing the hazardous sections it is easy to direct the maintenance at sections that are in bad condition. If immediate repair is not possible, at least the road users can be warned. Thus it is possible to promote road safety and prevent heavy vehicle accidents. |
Abstract (fin): | Suomessa tavaraliikenne hoidetaan pääasiassa erilaisin rekkakuljetuksin. Lähes 200 raskaan kaluston ajoneuvoa kaatuu vuosittain. Suuren massan ja kuljetettavan lastin vuoksi onnettomuudet aiheuttavat henkilövahinkojen lisäksi taloudellista vahinkoa ja mahdollisesti haittaa ympäristölle. Täten onkin syytä kiinnittää erityistä huomiota tien kunnon vaikutukseen raskaan kaluston turvallisen liikkumisen kannalta. Kaatumiset ovat pääasiassa yksittäisonnettomuuksia, joissa yleensä vältytään henkilövahingoilta. Suomessa päällystettyjen teiden pintakunto mitataan vuosittain noin 30 000 kaistakilometriltä. Palvelutasomittauksen (PTM-auto) perusteella tien pinnan profiili saadaan määritettyä tarkasti. Tien pinnan aiheuttamaa raskaan kaluston heilahtelun voimakkuutta kuvaamaan kehitettiin yksi uusi menetelmä. Menetelmä perustuu tien sivukaltevuuden taajuuden tarkasteluun. Suodatetun kallistuksen vaihtelun amplitudin keskiarvon (KVAKA) todettiin kuvaavan hyvin raskaan kaluston heilahtelun voimakkuutta. Saatavan tiedon perusteella tien korjaustoimenpiteitä on helppo kohdentaa. Mikäli välittömiin korjaustoimenpiteisiin ei ryhdytä, vaarallisista tienkohdista voidaan kuitenkin varoittaa. Täten voidaan ennaltaehkäistä raskaan kaluston onnettomuuksia. |
