Abstract (eng): | The objective of this master's thesis was to design a new free standing base for panoramic x-ray units. The free standing base should also be usable both in exhibition and clinic use. Until today there have been many various free standing bases, because each x-ray unit has had a specific attachment to the free standing base. The new free standing base to be designed has to be usable in each x-ray unit type. Its design should be suitable for all the x-ray units, packing size should be small and costs has to be as low as possible. Free standing base's strength and stability have to fit for its purpose as well. This thesis introduces the parts related to free standing base as well as the designing phases of each part. In the designing process the requirements were considered which were to set for free standing base, but also the claims of different manufacturing methods. Directional design was planned by the industrial designers, but the specific dimensions and design were generated during the design process. The amount of parts increased during the design process as well. Structural analyses were done for framework. They were made in situations, where the robotic arm was in the most critical positions, based on measurements of center of mass. Structural analyses were made by using finite element method with six times safety factor, compared to actual loads. To the prototype of free standing bases framework was also made mechanical strength and stability experiments. As a result, a smoothly designed free standing base was developed and it will replace the old ones. Its design fits for different panoramic x-ray units and e.g. packing size decreased over 50 %. The new free standing base clearly fulfils the requirements, which were set for it in the beginning of the project. |
