Abstract (eng): | The objectives of this thesis were to specify assembly-related costs in electromechanical product and define whether product development has managed to cut assembly-related costs when generating a new product. The theory is led by different design for X (DFX) methods. They are introduced briefly whereas the core of this thesis, design for assembly (DFA), is presented in very specific detail. In addition to DFA guidelines, some DFA programs and achievements by using DFA in different industries are introduced. In the case study two products representing old design and two representing new design are compared. Material analysis and three different assembly analyses support conclusions. Differences in materials and assembly efficiency are then reported and the effects on costs are calculated up to an annual level. Finally, after running different types of DFA analyses, doing calculations and collecting issues in production, redesign suggestions for current product and next generation are presented. |
