Abstract (eng): In this thesis, a radiation detector with a Modified Internal Gate (MIG) was studied.
The detector can be used in optical and X-ray photon detection.
The MIG is a potential energy minimum location for the signal charge carriers generated by radiation.
With single MOSFET MIG-device, several readouts can be made without losing the collected charge.
With low radiation intensities, dark current and photon shot noise are dominated by readout noise which can be attenuated with Correlated Double Sampling (CDS).
With a concept of a double MOSFET MIG-device, CDS readouts can be made continuously by transferring the collected charge back and forth between two MIGs.
The transfer of charge carriers makes it possible to average out noise in a single CDS readout, which in principle, makes it possible to detect single photons.

In a tested MIG-device, Charge Conversion Gain (CCG) was approximately 10 µV/charge carrier and MIG could hold roughly 4000 charge carriers before saturation.
The low-frequency noise from 10 Hz to 1 kHz was approximately twice the CCG, i.e. 20 µVrms.
The transfer functionality was examined, but unfortunately, only part of the collected charge carriers was seen to move between two MIGs.
The results of this thesis guide future development of the MIG-device towards an ability to detect single photons.
Abstract (fin): Tässä työssä tutkittiin muunneltuun sisäiseen hilaan (MIG, Modified Internal Gate) perustuvaa säteilyilmaisinta, jota voidaan käyttää optisten ja Röntgenfotonien havaitsemiseen.
MIG on potentiaalienergiaminimi säteilyn tuottamille signaalivarauksenkuljettajille.
MIG:iin kerätyn varauksen määrä voidaan mitata menettämättä sitä.
Lukukohinaa voidaan pienentää tekemällä ns.
CDS-mittaus (Correlated Double Sampling).
Kahden transistorin MIG-laitteella on mahdollista tehdä useita CDS-mittauksia siirtämällä kerääntyvää varausta edestakaisin kahden MIG:n välillä, mikä teoriassa mahdollistaa kohinan vähentämisen keskiarvoistamalla useita CDS-mittauksia.
