Reading digital theses in the closed network of the Aalto University Harald Herlin Learning Centre

In the closed network of Learning Centre you can read digital and digitized theses not available in the open network.

You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): In today's networked world people are working more and more outside their office and also outside during normal business hours.
This means that there needs to be a system, which makes it possible to work remotely regardless of place and time.
The objective of this thesis is to implement a new remote work system for Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority, Finland (STUK).
The new system will then replace the old and inadequate system, which is now in use.

We will first to look at what is meant by remote work and what kind of features does a remote work system usually include.
Then we will look for different kinds of remote work technologies there are and set the requirements for the new remote work system.
We will then compare the technologies and choose the most suitable one as the basis for a new remote work system at STUK.
This new system will then be implemented and piloted using a test group comprised of regular end-users.
The new remote work system will then be analyzed and checked that it fulfils the requirements.
Finally we look at how the new system could be further improved and which new features might possibly be added to it in the future.
Abstract (fin): Nykyisessä verkottuneessa maailmassa työskennellään yhä enemmän työpaikan ulkopuolella ja mahdollisesti myös normaalin työajan ulkopuolella.
Jotta tällainen työskentely on mahdollista, tarvitaan järjestelmä joka mahdollistaa etätyöskentelyn ajasta ja paikasta riippumatta.
Tämän työn tarkoituksena on toteuttaa Säteilyturvakeskukselle (STUK) uusi etätyöskentelyjärjestelmä, joka korvaa nykyisin käytössä olevan vanhentuneen järjestelmän.

Katsomme ensin mitä etätyöskentelyllä tarkoitetaan ja millaisia ominaisuuksia etätyöskentelyjärjestelmät yleensä sisältävät.
Katsomme myös millaisia erilaisia teknisiä ratkaisuja on olemassa ja määrittelemme vaatimukset uudelle järjestelmälle.
Teknologioiden vertailun jälkeen valitaan paras teknologia ja tämän pohjalta toteutetaan uusi etätyöskentelyjärjestelmä, jota testataan loppukäyttäjien toimesta.
Tämän jälkeen uusi järjestelmä analysoidaan ja tarkistetaan, että se toteuttaa kaikki määritetyt vaatimukset.
Lopuksi katsotaan miten uutta järjestelmää voisi jatkossa kehittää ja mitä uusia ominaisuuksia sille mahdollisesti jatkossa kannattaisi toteuttaa.
