Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): The aim of this thesis was to map the supervision methods of repairing of supplemental restraint systems and advanced auto body structures as applied by the respective authorities.
Further on, the intention was to locate any weaknesses in the current code of practice and suggest amendments thereto.
Finally, a functional solution for cooperation between the interested parties was to be established.

Resulting from exploding numbers of Supplementary Restraint Systems and advanced bodywork engineering found in the modern passenger car, the collision repairers, insurance engineers and roadworthiness inspectors are facing an expanding challenge.
Up-to-date repair techniques and online vehicle data storing database utilization are the key essentials of modem collision repairs.

First suggested solution to this is the further development of the data system currently used to store vehicle road worthiness testing and registration data.
With a moderate amount of effort, and cost, the system could be modified to accept all the documents form the post-collision evaluations made by the insurance company, as well as the descriptions of the correct repair procedures for SRS and bodywork of the vehicle in question.

Second suggestion addresses to enforcing the official supervision of repairs by amendments to the current national legislation, which, at present has no provisions regarding the supervision of collision repairers.
Utilization of legislative tools would act in favour of comprehensive repair supervision and should take into account also the other already regulated areas of automotive repairs, such as pneumatic brake system or speed limiter repairs.
The interested parties should be encouraged to maintain and develop their expertise of modern safety features.

As a conclusion, the suggested amendments would provide the authorities with better possibilities to evaluate and ensure the road worthiness of collision repaired passenger cars, and, thus enhance overall road traffic safety.
Abstract (fin): Diplomityön tavoite oli kuvata passiivisen turvallisuuden turvalaitteiden ja kolariturvallisten korirakenteiden korjaamisen viranomaisvalvonnan menetelmät ja selvittää prosessiin liittyvät kehitystarpeet sekä löytää yhteistyömalli turvavarustekentän toimijoiden välille.

Uuden turvatekniikan ja uusien turvakorirakenteiden lisääntyminen henkilöautoissa vuosituhannen vaihteesta lähtien on asettanut turvavarustekorjaamot, autovahinkotarkastajat ja vaurioituneen ajoneuvon katsastajat kasvavan haasteen eteen.
Ajoneuvoa ja sen korjaamista koskevan ajantasaisen tiedon hankkiminen ja sen tehokas hyödyntäminen korjaustoimiin liittyen on ensiarvoisen tärkeää.

Ajoneuvoliikenteen tietojärjestelmän dokumenttienhallintaan liittyviä ominaisuuksia tulisi kehittää vaurioajoneuvon tarkastusasiakirjojen ja kuvien tallentamiseksi viranomaisjärjestelmään.
Tallennettujen asiakirjojen perusteella korjatun vaurioajoneuvon rekisteröintikatsastuksessa olisi mahdollista tarkastaa ajoneuvo vaurioiden korjausten osalta asianmukaisella tarkkuudella.

Liikenteen turvallisuusviraston tulisi ottaa turvavarustekorjaamoiden asiantuntemuksen arviointiin laadittu korikorjaamoluokitus käyttöön suosituksen määriteltäessä ohjein asiantuntevan turvavarustekorjaamon kriteerejä.
Turvavarustekorjaamoiden valvontamenetelmiä tulisi kehittää lainsäädännön keinoin kokonaisuutena muiden luvanvaraisten korjaamoiden valvonnan rinnalla ja toimijoiden kouluttautumiseen uuden turvatekniikan alueella tulisi kiinnittää huomiota.

Toteuttamalla ehdotettuja toimenpiteitä on mahdollista kohentaa turvavarusteisiin liittyvien katsastustarkastusten luotettavuutta ja varmistaa korjattuina liikenteeseen palaavien vaurioajoneuvojen passiivisen turvallisuuden turvavarusteiden ja turvakorirakenteiden asianmukainen toimintakunto.
