Abstract (eng): | This master's thesis examines using Lévy-processes as the driving random processes in financial modelling. Lévy-processes are stochastic processes with cadlag-paths, independent and stationary increments and in a stochastic sense continuous paths. However, jumps can occur in these processes, which mean that the sudden changes that happen in real finance world are present in the model as well. Therefore they are better suited for modelling stock prices than continuous processes like geometric Brownian motion. Lévy-Itô decomposton demonstrates that a Lévy-process can be presented as a sum of a drift term, Brownian motion, square integrable martingale (representing small jumps) and a compound Poisson-process (representing large jumps). Thus, a Lévyprocess can be characterized by trend b, Brownian motion volatility sigma2 and a Lévymeasure v describing the intensity of jumps. The market models defined through Lévy-processes are typically based on either the regular exponent of the process or the stochastic, so called Doléans-Dade - exponent. These two processes are separate, but a connection can be shown to exist between them using the characteristic triplets. In fact, the two different exponent models define the same set of positive processes. In light of the First Fundamental Theorem Of Finance, the existance of a martingale measure is essential. In case of Lévy-processes, necessary and adequete conditions can be found, again described through characteristic triplets. Conditions are quite loose, and the measure can be changed relatively freely. The markets defined by processes with jumps are, in general, not complete. Even in the case of compond Poisson-process, several separate martingale measures can be constructed. Therefore pricing in Lévy-models is not unique. The pricing problem can be approached by, for example, superhedging, where the worst-case scenario is used as the basis for the pricing. Other possibilities include utility indifference pricing and quadratic hedging. Pricing rules based on utility functions compared to superhedging present a challange in the form of agent-dependent parameters. |
Abstract (fin): | Tässä työssä tutkitaan Lévy-prosessien käyttöä hinnoittelumalleja ajavina satunaisprosesseina. Lévy-prosessit ovat stokastisia prosesseja, joilla on cadlag-polut, riippumattomat ja stationaariset lisäykset sekä stokastisessa mielessä jatkuvat polut. Prosessit kuitenkin mahdollistavat hypyt eli finanssimaailmassa tapahtuvat äkkinäiset kurssimuutokset, ja soveltuvat siksi jatkuvia prosesseja kuten geometrista Brownin liikettä paremmin osakekurssien mallintamiseen. Lévy-Itô -hajotelma osoittaa, että Lévy-prosessi voidaan esittää summana trenditermistä, Brownin liikkeestä, neliöintegroituvasta martingaaliosasta (pienet hypyt) sekä yhdistetystä Poisson-prosessista (suuret hypyt). Lévy-prosessi voidaankin karakterisoida trendin b, Brownin liikkeen volatiliteetin sigma2 ja hyppyjen intensiteettiä kuvaavan Lévy-mitan v avulla. Lévy-prosessien määrittelemät hinnoittelumallit perustuvat tyypillisesti joko prosessin tavalliseen eksponenttiin tai stokastiseen eli nk. Doléans-Dade - eksponenttiin. Näin syntyvät prosessit ovat erillisiä, mutta niiden välille voidaan osoittaa yhteys karakterististen kolmikoiden kautta. Itse asiassa eksponentit määrittävät täsmälleen samat (positiiviset) prosessit. Rahoitusteorian I päälauseen valossa martingaalimitan löytyminen on olennaista. Utiliteettifunktioihin perustuvien hinnoittelusääntöjen haastavana puolena verrattuna ylisuojaukseen on toimijasta riippuvat parametrit. |
