Abstract (eng): | Purpose of the study: The study was done as a part of a research project, which examines the Active Life Home -concept designed to support longer independent living of the elderly in their home environments. This requires creating a platform, where care solutions from different equipment manufacturers and service providers can work coherently together. In the core of this concept is a web portal, which introduces the solutions, enables ordering them, and where the activity and health information collected by these solutions is stored, analyzed, and presented to various entities. The purpose of this study was to design the web portal so that it generates positive user experience, and that it enables the concept. Methodology: The research framework was built based on the existing theories of user experience and user experience design in the field of information systems research. The research method was design science, which are a problem-solving paradigm and a typically used method in information systems research. The goal, when using the design science as a method, is to build and evaluate IT artifacts intended to solve problems within organizations. Here, the process of designing and building the artifact was based on Garrett's user experience design framework, which is intended especially for designing task-and information-oriented products from the user experience perspective. Evaluations were formative and focused on the evaluation during the design and building of the artifact. Evaluation techniques included focus groups, scenarios, prototyping, and simulation. Findings: The key result of this study is the designed IT artifact, which is an instantiation in the form of a prototype. It demonstrates the feasibility of both the design process and the final product, Active Life Home -portal. The prototype acts also as the base for the coming implementation work and efficiently communicates the concept. |
Abstract (fin): | Tutkimuksen tavoite: Diplomityö toteutettiin osana tutkimushanketta, joka keskittyy Active Life Home -konseptiin. |
