Abstract (eng): | Unmanned aerial systems (UASs) are gaining increasing importance in various civil applications in addition to the already more established military applications. Such civil applications include aerial photography as well as various sampling and remote sensing tasks. Typical end users are represented by civil movement authorities, scientists and private enterprises. This master's thesis has been prepared as a part of a technology program, whose objective is the development of environmental monitoring solutions and that has been funded by the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes). In the beginning of this thesis, the general features of UASs are studied and examples of essential regulations on UASs are presented. Further, the findings of a qualitative survey on Finnish UAS needs are presented and discussed, followed by an assessment of the capability of certain existing systems to fulfil such needs. The last part of the thesis consists of a proposal for a system that could -in addition to the aforementioned project-be utilised in the aeronautical engineering curriculum of the Aalto University. |
Abstract (fin): | Miehittämättömät ilma-alusjärjestelmät ovat tekemässä läpimurtoa siviilisovelluksiin jo pidempään käytössä olleiden sotilassovellusten rinnalle. |
