Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): In this work, oxy-fuel combustion effects on the solid material balance of a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler are studied.

First, a literature review is given, including overviews of the backgrounds of this study: greenhouse gas emissions, climate change, carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology and CFB technology.
Furthermore, the literature review discusses about the state of the art of the oxy-fuel CFB technology, theory of solid material balance of a CFB boiler and theoretical effects of oxy-fuel combustion on it.

After the literature review, solid material balance and oxy-fuel combustion effects on it are studied based on the experimental data obtained from the 0.8 MW OXY-CFB pilot plant test runs conducted in 2010.

The differences in the solid material balance between air-fired and oxy-fuel combustion are reported, including effects on vertical distribution of solids in CFB furnace (density profile), separation efficiency, ash split and commination of fuel ash and limestone.
In addition, models are developed to predict the solids performance in oxy-fuel combustion (exit density, separation efficiency).

Finally, comparison is done between the OXY-CFB pilot results and the results obtained from smaller VTT oxy-fuel CFB pilot.
Vertical distribution of solids, ash split and ash commination are compared between the two pilots.
Abstract (fin): Tässä työssä on tutkittu happipolton vaikutuksia kiertopetikattilan (CFB) kiintoainetaseeseen.

Työn alussa on kirjallisuuskatsaus, jossa käsitellään tutkimuksen taustoja: kasvihuonekaasupäästöjä, ilmastonmuutosta, hiilidioksidin talteenotto- ja varastointitekniikkaa (CCS) ja CFB-teknologiaa.
Kirjallisuuskatsaus käsittelee lisäksi happipolttoisen CFB-kattilan tämänhetkistä kehitystilannetta, CFB-kattilan kiintoainetaseen teoriaa ja happipolton teoreettisia vaikutuksia siihen.

Kirjallisuuskatsauksen jälkeen kiintoainetasetta ja happipolton vaikutuksia siihen on tutkittu kokeellisen datan perusteella.
Data on tuotettu 0,8 MW:n OXY-CFB pilot-laitoskokeissa vuonna 2010.

Erot ilma- ja happipolton välillä pilotin massataseessa on raportoitu, sisältäen vaikutukset kiintoaineen pystysuuntaiseen jakautumiseen tulipesässä (tiheysprofiili), erotushyötysuhteeseen, tuhkajakoon ja polttoaineen tuhkan sekä kalkin jauhautumiseen.
Lisäksi on kehitetty malleja, joiden avulla kiintoaineen käyttäytymistä happipoltossa voidaan ennustaa (exit-tiheys, erotushyötysuhde).

Lopuksi OXY-CFB-pilotin tuloksia on verrattu pienemmästä VTT:n happipoltto-CFB-pilotista saatuihin tuloksiin.
OXY-CFB:n ja VTT:n pilottien välillä on vertailtu kiintoaineen pystysuuntaista jakautumista, tuhkajakoa ja tuhkan jauhautumista.
