Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): The goal of this study is to investigate six Lahti city organizations, which are about to apply to use WWF Finland's Green Office environmental management system certificate.
The current level of environmental load of each office is investigated and development ideas about how the certification and choosing of indicators that are motorized in the system could be done easier in other city organizations are given.
Research methods are collection of numerical data and interviews about energy and water consumption, waste generation, acquisitions, traveling and staff motivation.
These methods can be used in the whole city organization but due to the partly deficient availability of numerical data, their accuracy and reliability should be evaluated according to the case.

The study shows that paper consumption the load, which can be reduced with little effort in all researched offices.
The most difficult loads to be reduced are the ones that can't be affected by an officer worker.
These loads are heating and acquisitions.
The effectiveness of waste sorting varies in different offices.
Water consumption is a theme in every researched office that is considered that low, that it shouldn't be the main principal of the certification.
Travelling in the work time awakes conversation but at this point it can't be reduced to the hurry of the other tasks.
At this moment of the certification, staff motivation towards Green Office depends on the level of awareness about it.
The offices do not yet have a clear vision about which kind of environmental communication could suit them best.
However, the communication channels already exist in every office.
The numerical data demonstrated in this study are partly only indicative, therefore reliable results can't be deduced from them.

It is important in the future that measuring of environmental loads is possible in individual offices so that Green Office indicators can be motorized in a reliable way.
This requires additional efforts from land lord in the offices which are tenants.
It is worth considering which indicators can be affected and which operations are easy to execute.
Is important that the employees are aware of Green Office in the early phase and that they are being informed and welcomed to come in on the certification project during the whole process.
This way it is more likely that they engage to it and find it meaningful.
Abstract (fin): Tämän tutkimuksen tavoite oli selvittää Suomen WWF:n Green Office-ympäristöjohtamissertifikaattia hakevien kuuden Lahden kaupungin organisaation ympäristökuormituksen nykytaso ja antaa kehittämisideoita, jotta sertifiointi ja järjestelmässä seurattavien indikaattorien valinta helpottuisi muissa kaupungin organisaatiossa.
Tutkimusmenetelminä käytettiin numeerisen kulutusdatan keraamista ja henkilöhaastatteluita energian- ja vedenkulutuksesta, jätteiden syntymisestä, hankinnoista, matkustamisesta ja henkilökunnan motivaatiosta.
Menetelmät soveltuvat käytettäväksi koko kaupunkiorganisaatiossa, mutta kulutustietojen osittaisen vaikean saatavuuden takia niiden tarkkuus ja luotettavuus on syytä arvioida tapauskohtaisesti.

Tutkimuksessa ilmeni, että paperinkulutus on selkeimmin asia, jonka kulutusta voidaan vähentää pienin lisäponnistuksin kaikissa tutkimuskohteissa.
Vaikeimmiksi asioiksi parantaa koetaan ympäristökuormitukset, joihin ei itse voida vaikuttaa.
Näitä ovat lämmitys ja hankinnat.
Jätteiden lajittelutehokkuus vaihtelee tutkimuskohteittain.
Kaikissa kohteissa vedenkäyttö koetaan niin pieneksi, ettei siihen kannata keskittyä.
Työajalla matkustaminen herättää keskustelua, mutta henkilöauton käytön vähentäminen ei ole vielä mahdollista työtehtävien kiireellisyyden takia.

Henkilökunnan vastaanottavaisuus Green Officelle riippuu näin sertifioinnin alkuvaiheessa siitä, kuinka paljon siitä tiedetään etukäteen.
Toimistoilla ei vielä ole selkeää näkemystä, millainen toimiston ympäristöasioita koskeva viestintä sopisi heille parhaiten.
Viestintäkanavat ovat kuitenkin jo pääosin olemassa.
Tässä tutkimuksessa esitettävät kulutustiedot ovat osittain suuntaa-antavia arvioita, joten niistä ei voida luoda luotettavia tuloksia.

Tulevaisuudessa on tärkeää, että toimistokohtainen mittaaminen on mahdollista, jotta Green Office indikaattoreita voidaan seurata luotettavasti.
Tämä vaatii lisäponnistuksia vuokraisänniltä niissä kohteissa, joissa kaupungin yksiköt ovat vuokralaisina.
Kannattaa miettiä mihin indikaattoreihin voidaan itse vaikuttaa ja mitkä olisivat helppoja toimenpiteitä.
On tärkeää, että työntekijät ovat tietoisia Green Officesta mahdollisimman aikaisessa vaiheessa ja, että heitä informoidaan ja otetaan mukaan koko prosessin aikana.
Näin ympäristöohjelmaan sitoutuminen ja sen mielekkääksi kokeminen olisi mahdollisimman todennäköistä.
