Abstract (eng): | Froth flotation is one of the most common concentration methods in mineral engineering. It is used to separate valuable minerals from unwanted gangue minerals by exploiting the different surface chemical properties of the minerals. The process is highly complex comprising several phases, components and phenomena. Hence, the control of the process is very challenging, and therefore still often based on the process operator's knowledge and experience. By using an accurate dynamic model of the process, simulations can be utilised to support the process operator's decision making. This demands online estimation methods to find suitable model parameters that make the model outputs match the process outputs sufficiently as the process advances. This thesis investigates methods for estimating the flotation parameters of a copper flotation process. Different algorithms obtained from literature are discussed and tested for their suitability for sufficiently accurate parameter estimation. These methods include recursive least squares algorithm with modifications (MRLS) and stochastic gradient based methods. The testing is performed using two concurrent Outotec's HSC simulators, the other representing the actual process and the other the model, communicating with MATLAB software that also handles the actual algorithm functionalities. Results show that the MRLS method and the normalised least mean squares method (NLMS) can produce accurate enough estimates if their tuning constants and weighting factors are carefully chosen. The floatability of sphalerite is discovered to be the most difficult parameter to estimate, and further measures should be taken to address that issue. |
Abstract (fin): | Vaahdotusrikastus on yksi yleisimmistä mineraalien rikastusmenetelmistä. Prosessioperaattorien tukena voidaan käyttää dynaamista mallia, jota ajetaan simulaattorissa todellisen prosessin rinnalla. |
