Abstract (eng): | There is great a need for safety design of buildings, to safely evacuate people in case of fire or other more or less catastrophic situations. There are legal quantitative regulations and safety requirements, when constructing a building, but often they are not sufficient especially in public places. For example, the egress flow and jamming effects of crowds are not taken realistically into account. There have been cases, where the lack of safety design has had disastrous effects in nightclubs, festivals, shopping centres etc. There are many different approaches to simulate egress flows. The most popular models are Helbing's social force model and cellular automaton models. Various continuous models, like FDS+Evac (developed mainly in the Technical Research Centre of Finland), are often computationally demanding, but give more realistic results. In this thesis, the focus is on a computationally more efficient cellular automaton model, which is discrete both in time and space. There, the crowd moves towards the exit in a cell grid, according to some transition probabilities. In this thesis the cellular automaton model developed by Schadschneider is used to model the movement of a crowd. However, Schadschneider's model is not a behavioral model. It describes how the crowd moves, but not why it moves like it does. A game theoretical model developed by Heliövaara et al. (2013), for the game people play in an evacuation situation, is applied to the cellular automaton model, to explain the behavior of people in an egress congestion. In our model, the evacuees choose their behavior by observing their surroundings. Furthermore, the choice of behavior changes the transition probabilities in the cellular automata. The model proves to give qualitatively similar results to the most recent version of FDS+Evac. |
Abstract (fin): | Rakennusturvallisuuden suunnittelu on tärkeää, mikäli halutaan varmistaa turvallinen poistuminen rakennuksesta tulipalo- tai muussa paniikkitilanteessa. Soluautomaattimallissa rakennusta mallinnetaan solukolla, johon ihmiset on asetettu. |
