Reading digital theses in the closed network of the Aalto University Harald Herlin Learning Centre

In the closed network of Learning Centre you can read digital and digitized theses not available in the open network.

You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng):To overcome the inevitable end of Moore's law, tighter integration of the non-digital parts of electronics is needed.
VTT the Technical Research Center of Finland has been developing an integration process for radio frequency passive components to tackle this challenge.
The goal of this master's thesis was to demonstrate that the radio frequency passive component integration technology of VTT is reaching technical maturity and can compete with existing commercial technologies.
This was accomplished by designing and manufacturing two low-pass filters and two diplexers.
The correct operation of the manufactured components was confirmed by measurements.
It was noticed that the process is capable of producing low loss components with small inter-component variation.
However, a systematic flaw was discovered in the process.
It was the capacitors' dielectric layer being too thin, which made all the capacitors have too big capacitances.
This was due to a malfunction of the manufacturing equipment.
It was, though, concluded that after fixing this final flaw, the process will be ready and it will produce high quality radio frequency integrated passive components.
Abstract (fin):Jotta elektroniikan kehitys jatkuisi Mooren lain tultua tiensä päähän, tarvitaan muunkin kuin digitaalisen elektroniikan tiiviimpää integrointia.
Teknologian tutkimuskeskus VTT on kehittänyt prosessia radiotaajuuksilla toimivien passiivikomponenttien integrointiin vastatakseen kyseiseen haasteeseen.
Tämän diplomityön tavoitteena oli osoittaa, että VTT:n radiotaajuisten passiivikomponenttien integrointiprosessi alkaa olla käyttövalmis teknologia, joka pärjää vertailussa olemassa olevien kaupallisten teknologioiden kanssa.
Tämä osoitettiin suunnittelemalla ja valmistamalla kaksi alipäästösuodatinta sekä kaksi diplekseriä.
Valmistettujen komponenttien toimivuus varmistettiin mittauksin.
Diplomityössä havaittiin, että prosessilla pystyy tuottamaan vähähäviöisiä komponentteja.
Keskenään samanlaisten komponenttien välisen vaihtelun huomattiin olevan pientä.
Prosessista löydetiin tosin systemaattinen vika; kondensaattoreiden eristekerros oli nimittäin liian pieni laitevian vuoksi.
Tämä sai aikaan sen, että kaikkien kondensaattoreiden kapasitanssi oli järjestään liian suuri.
Diplomityössä todettiin kuitenkin, että kun tämä viimeinenkin vika saadaan korjattua, prosessointiteknologia on valmis, ja sillä voi tuottaa laadukkaita integroituja komponentteja radiotaajuisiin sovelluksiin.
