You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.

Abstract (eng):Face recognition is an area where there is still much research to be done.
The goal of this master's thesis is to look into different methods of finding a face from a picture and determine the orientation of the head.
Alongside this thesis there is a program made that finds the orientation of the head from a webcam or a video file.
This program uses OpenCV's object-recognition method that uses Haar-like features to detect objects.
OpenCV is used to find the face and face features.
From these features the orientation of the head is calculated by the program that is made alongside this thesis.
The program is tested by comparing the orientation of the head to the real position of the head.
The program is also tested with different lighting conditions.
The program works fast (about ten pictures a second) and the head orientation is found, depending on the conditions, approximately at 4 degree accuracy for each of the angles of the head.
Abstract (fin):Kasvojentunnistus on ala, jossa on vielä paljon tutkittavaa.
