Abstract (eng): | In recent years, artificial materials (metamaterials) have been used to design materials which have unique and unusual properties like negative permittivity and permittivity near zero. A proper example of these structures is wire medium. The motivation for this study lies in the propagation of waves in wire media and the effects of the interface during propagation phenomenon. A fraction of incoming wave is reflected by the interface of the wire medium where the direction of the wires is at an angle with respect to the interface. In general the reflection problem is divided into two polarizations. For ordinary fields the reflection from the wire medium interface is like the reflection from an isotropic dielectric medium. For extraordinary fields, which are considered in this study, due to spatial dispersion there exist two transmitted eigenfields in the wire medium and the reflection problem is' more complicated requiring an additional boundary condition. In this study it is also very important to determine the propagation constants for extraordinary fields when the wires are tilted at an angle to the interface. This is done by solving the Maxwell equations in the general case. |
