Abstract (eng): On-line services for the mobile phone industry form an area that is constantly evolving.
Operators compete with each other by introducing new services, service packages and pricing schemes.
The ability to quickly push out new services can be a key factor for surviving on the market.

When developing such new services, reusable building blocks can drastically reduce the time spent on the actual development.
Going one step further, the building blocks should he easy to use (for developers), provide for implementing scalable solutions and direct the developer to make the right decisions.

This thesis studies an existing product platform which provides the key building blocks that are needed when building products and solutions in the telecommunication area.
The focus of the study is the building blocks that are involved in establishing communications with external systems.
Examples of external systems are messaging gateways, authentication systems, content adaptation services and operator-specific hardware & software environments.
Building blocks here refer to both the source code and the associated documentation and examples.

The goals are to review the quality of the communication building blocks, to suggest an improved design and to implement the suggested design.

Based on the findings of the study, existing technology solutions were evaluated and adapted to the platform environment.
The resulting design was then implemented, producing new versions of the modified building blocks, including source code, documentation updates and examples.
