Abstract (eng): The purpose of the thesis was to study plywood board manufactured by using Effective Drying (ED) method developed and patented at Aalto University.
The ED is a new practice for veneer drying.
The process uses innovative technology that operates differently than traditional veneer drying methods.

The study examined the yield of ED process and approached the plywood characteristics by performing four different tests which measured flatness behaviour, glue bond quality, bending characteristics and tension bending.

Three different plywood board types were manufactured for the study.
The ED and two separate reference plywood boards.
The manufacturing processes were divided between Aalto University and Koskisen Oy plywood mill.

The performed tests showed that the ED plywood flatness behaviour and tension bending were worse than the reference boards.
The mechanical strength experiments revealed that the ED samples performed similarly in the glue bond quality test and better in the bending experiments than the reference samples.

It was discovered during the tests that the ED method requires further study to improve the drying quality.
Also new ideas rose for new alternative actions to attach into the drying process.

Lisaksi uusia ideoita nousi, kuinka kyseistä uutta tekniikkaa voitaisiin käyttää kuivauksen ohella tapahtuvaan viilun muokkaamiseen.
