Abstract (eng): | The enormous growth of the number of Internet users sets challenges for hosting and maintaining scalable and highly-available web-based services. In this thesis it is studied how these problems can he addresses by virtualizing HTTP server functions and introducing application layer switching functions. A HTTP server module capable of performing application layer switching and other load-balancing and traffic management functions is implemented as part of this thesis. This implementation can he used for responding to high-availability and scalability challenges. Implementation provides a platform that can he used for testing and experimenting with different content-based routing, HTTP request and response rewriting and traffic management functions presented in this thesis. This thesis will show that application layer switching and content-based routing is suitable for implementing highly-available and scalable HTTP services. In addition to this different application layer switching functions can be used for improving the quality and security of existing web applications. |
Abstract (fin): | Internetin käyttäjämäärien räjähdysmäinen kasvu asettaa haasteita luotettavien ja skaalautuvien www-palveluiden tuottamiselle ja ylläpitämiselle. |
