Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): The present study focuses on risk management in mobile phone network export projects.
These kind of projects are usually financially significant and the risks involved in them are high.
Also, the companies involved in these projects vary in size very much, which further enhances the importance of proper risk management because of the small companies at the end of the contract chain.
The contracts of these projects are very complex and usually play the most significant role in risk management of mobile phone network export projects.
Therefore this study focuses on analyzing the contractual relationships between major parties of a single network export project.
The research problem can be formulated as follows: how are the risks allocated and managed in mobile phone network export projects, and how this should be further developed?
The study seeks to give the client relevant recommendations to enhance its risk management of both single risks and the total risk of a project.
The objectives of the study are: 1. to create, based on the literature study conducted, a better understanding of good risk management procedures in mobile phone export projects as well as a synthesis model for the analysis on contract based risk allocation in such projects 2. to form, based on the model, a risk allocation profile for the case analyzed and to find out why this profile was selected in the contractual negotiations 3. to find out how risks are managed both in the contracts and in practice 4. to compare the practical and contractual risk management to the theoretical findings in order to locate areas that might need improvement 5. to find relevant recommendations for the client to further develop its risk management processes and to locate the areas of these processes that should be concentrated on.
The literature study goes through the literature considering international construction projects as well as risk identification, allocation and management in general.
This is to give the formulated theoretical framework relevant and valid scientific background.
The contract analysis uses this framework to analyze the contracts of an example case as well as locates the main risk management elements of the said contracts.
The interviews are used to find out the reasons behind the formulated risk allocation profile of the case project, to locate the areas of risk management that most need improving as well as to present valid development recommendations in the said areas.
Abstract (fin): Tässä diplomityössä käsitellään matkapuhelinverkkojen vientihankkeita riskienhallinnan näkökulmasta.
Tällaiset hankkeet ovat usein taloudellisesti hyvin merkittäviä ja niihin liittyvät riskit ovat suuria.
Lisäksi hankkeissa toimii usein hyvin erikokoisia yrityksiä, jolloin riskienhallinnan merkitys korostuu sopimusketjun päässä olevin pienyritysten vuoksi.
Hankkeiden sopimukset ovat monivaiheisia, ja ovat yleensä pääosassa hankkeen riskejä hallittaessa.
Tästä syystä työssä keskitytään yksittäisen hankkeen sopimusten analysointiin.
Tutkimusongelma voidaan muotoilla seuraavasti: Millä tavoin riskit jakautuvat ja miten riskejä hallitaan matkapuhelinten verkkovientiprojekteja koskevassa sopimuskäytännössä, sekä miten tätä tulisi kehittää?
Työ pyrkii antamaan toimeksiantajalleen myös toimintasuosituksia yksittäisten riskien ja riskikokonaisuuden parempaa hallintaa varten.
Työn tavoitteena on: 1. luoda kirjallisuustutkimuksen avulla olemassa olevaa laajempi ymmärrys hyvästä riskienhallinnasta matkapuhelinverkkojen vientiprojekteissa, sekä synteesimalli riskien sopimusperusteisen jakautumisen analysoimiseen 2. muotoilla tämän mallin perusteella esimerkkihankkeen keskeisten sopimusten riskinjakoprofiili sekä selvittää minkä vuoksi tällaiseen riskienjakoon on päädytty 3. saada selville, millä tavoin riskejä hallitaan sekä sopimuksissa että toteutuskäytännössä 4. vertailla käytännön riskienhallintaa teoreettiselta kannalta optimaaliseen riskienhallintaan kehittämisalueiden paikantamiseksi 5. löytää toimeksiantajan kannalta relevantteja suosituksia siihen, millä tavoin toimeksiantaja voi kehittää riskienhallintaprosessejaan jatkossa sekä mihin osaalueisiin tämän kannattaa keskittyä Kirjallisuustutkimuksessa käydään läpi kansainvälisistä rakennusprojekteista laadittu tieteellinen kirjallisuus sekä muuta riskienhallintaan liittyvää kirjallisuutta riittävän laajan kokonaiskuvan luomiseksi, jotta luotavalle teoreettiselle mallille saadaan riittävä pohja.
Sopimusanalyysissä puolestaan sovelletaan luotua mallia riskinjakoprofiilin aikaansaamiseksi sekä selvitetään sopimusten riskienhallinnalliset elementit.
Haastattelututkimuksen avulla pyritään selvittämään syitä havaitun riskinjakoprofiilin takana, paikantamaan riskienjaon ja hallinnan niitä alueita, joilla olisi kehitettävää sekä löytämään toteuttamiskelpoisia kehitysideoita näillä aihealueilla.
