Abstract (eng): One of the challenges in utilization of biomass in synthesis gas production is high tar content in the product gas.
Tar components have to be either removed or eliminated to acceptable level.
In this thesis the operation of an industrial size tar reforming unit is modelled for performance evaluation and optimization purposes.
The modelled reformer is a two-staged and operated auto thermally.
Synthesis gas to be purified originates from a bubbling fluidized bed gasifier operated with lignocellulosic biomass.

An Excel calculation program was constructed and used for verification of reformer operation related assumptions and for validation of conclusions made according experimental data.
Only a certain set of operation parameters in the calculation model was observed to correlate calculated process values with experimental data.
Calculation model yields the temperature profile inside the reformer in the direction of the gas flow and the effect of the reformer on the output gas composition in terms of tar content and proportions of gas main components (CO, H2 CO2 and H2O).
Abstract (fin): Korkea tervapitoisuus tuotekaasussa tekee biomassan hyödyntämisen synteesikaasun tuotannossa haastavaksi.
Puhdistettava synteesikaasu tuotetaan puuperäisestä biomassasta kuplivalla leijukerroskaasuttimella.
