Abstract (eng): The purpose of this thesis was to study vapor-liquid, vapor-liquid-liquid and liquid-liquid equilibrium of different water-hydrocarbon mixtures.
Different equations of state, activity coefficient models and statistical thermodynamics-based models were used in this study.
Examination of the applicability of the different models for water-hydrocarbon systems was made by Aspen Plus -software.
Calculated values derived from Aspen Plus were compared to measured values found with literature survey.

The literature part of this work deals with the concept of phase equilibrium and its characterization by various methods.
Most important equations of state and the activity coefficient models are presented in literature section.
In addition, the literature part deals with phase equilibrium calculations carried out by the simulation software.
There is also short description of the pseudo components and their physical properties in literature section.

The experimental part contains description of calculation and modeling methodologies in Aspen Plus developed for water-hydrocarbon systems.
In addition, results from the comparison of measurement values and calculated values are presented in experimental part.
Abstract (fin): Työssä tutkittiin eri vesi-hiilivetyseosten höyry-neste-, höyry-neste-neste- ja neste-nestetasapainojen kuvaamista tilanyhtälöjen, aktiivisuuskerroinmallien ja statistiseen termodynamiikkaan perustuvien mallien avulla.
Mallien soveltuvuutta faasitasapainojen kuvaamiseen tutkittiin Aspen Plus -simulointiohjelmalla.
