Abstract (eng): | The demand to fulfil a wider range of customer requirements increases constantly. Therefore the complexity of customizable products increases. The product life cycle as well as the lead time for product development shortens at the same time. Companies become more international and their research and development activity decentralizes. Collaborative product development challenges the communication and the data management but enables the faster development of complex products. Digital design methods such as computer aided design, computer aided engineering and product data management make the collaborative development possible and decrease the need for expensive prototyping. Configurable products enable the customizable design for different customer requirements. Digital design methods in collaborative product development are researched in this master's thesis. A case study of a configurable bathroom faucet was performed. Prototypes were built by sand casting and direct metal laser sintering. The digital design for the techniques was compared. The most important difference is that tools are needed with sand casting which makes the configurable design more challenging. The tools were manufactured by 3D printing and numerical machining. |
Abstract (fin): | Tarve täyttää asiakkaiden vaatimuksia laajemmin kasvaa jatkuvasti. |
