Abstract (eng): The World Wide Web is the largest collection of documents that ever has existed.
Arguably it has changed the world more than any invention in the past century.
The Web is now evolving from a static collection of web pages into a collection of dynamic services that can be accessed in multiple ways.

There are various visions of the future Web and the possibilities it will offer.
Some are more down to earth and some are closer to the promises of artificial intelligence some decades ago.

This Thesis discusses different visions of how the Web might evolve, and explains where the different technologies have come from.
The central theme circles around the Web, Web Services and software agents and how these can form the vision called the Semantic Web.
The possible merging of technologies such as Web Services and software agents is discussed.

As a part of this Thesis I have implemented two demonstrations using software agent and Semantic Web technologies.
Abstract (fin): World Wide Web on kautta aikain suurin kokoelma dokumentteja ja yhteiskunnalliselta vaikutukseltaan yksi viime vuosisadan merkittävimmistä keksinnöistä.
