Abstract (eng): | This study provides an overview of the current situation in the casing industry. A strategic analysis model is developed for the purpose of evaluating the casing industry. The model combines relevant schools of strategy that have been discussed in strategy literature. The approaches combined in the model are industrial organization, resource, cognition and evolutionary approaches. The development of the casing industry is studied from the beginning of 1999 to the present day. Structural changes in the mobile handset industry have affected capacity development of manufacturing facilities. The development of capacity was discovered to be the most important drivers of competitive advantage. As development is still taking place, these drivers will continue to exist as a source of competitive advantage also in the near future. The analysis of capacity related issues was supported by the analysis of management cognition. Competitive advantage in the casing industry was discovered to be gained through a global low cost production network, where locations are located next to the largest handset manufacturers. Perlos seems to be in the best position for the future. The company is able to be ahead of its competitors both in perception and implementation of change. Furthermore, close customer relations and investments into future competitive advantages make Perlos the most interesting company in the market. |
Abstract (fin): | Tämä tutkimus keskittyy analysoimaan johtavia matkapuhelinteollisuuden muovikuorivalmistajia. Tämän lisäksi esitellään malli toimialan strategista analysointia varten. Malli yhdistää strategiakirjallisuudessa eniten kiinnostusta saaneet strategian suuntaukset. Näitä ovat toimialalähtöinen-, resurssi-, kognitio- ja evolutionäärinen katsantatapa. Muovikuoritoimialan kehitystä on analysoitu vuoden 1999 alusta nykyhetkeen saakka. Asiakasteollisuuden muutosten seurauksena muovikuoriteollisuus on muuttunut merkittävästi näiden vuosien aikana. Muovikuoriteollisuudessa kilpailuetu on saavutettu kustannustehokkaalla globaalilla tuotantoverkostolla, jolla on kyetty tarjoamaan asiakkaille edullisia tuotteita joustavasti. Perlos on parhaassa tilanteessa tulevaisuutta ajatellen, sillä yhtiö näyttäisi kykenevän olemaan kilpailijoitaan edellä niin asioiden havaitsemisessa kuin niiden toteutuksessa. Lisäksi Perloksen hyvät asiakassuhteet ja yhtiön investoinnit tulevaisuuden mahdollisiin kilpailuetuihin tekevät yhtiöstä mielenkiintoisimman toimijan markkinoilla. |
