Reading digital theses in the closed network of the Aalto University Harald Herlin Learning Centre

In the closed network of Learning Centre you can read digital and digitized theses not available in the open network.

You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng):The scope of this thesis is road traffic noise: tyre/road noise and road traffic noise prediction methods.
Main focus was on the effect of silent pavement on tyre noise.
The noise was studied with both measurements and prediction methods.
Noise measurements were done with Pass-By methods.
Results from current and new-generation prediction methods were compared with each other and against to the measured values.

According to the measurement results, in winter-time silent pavements are equally loud compared to the reference surfaces.
On summer time silent pavements are from 2 to 3 dB more silent than the reference surfaces.
The new generation Nord2000 prediction method was notably more accurate than the current Nordic prediction method.
In the current Nordic prediction method sound exposure levels and ground correction of light vehicles are too low.
Also, in the new prediction methods original sound exposure levels are too low.
In Finland the correct correction values that take into account the different road and/or vehicle population should be used when using these new models.
In addition vertical directivity of vehicle noise was studied; result being that there is not much vertical directivity.
Abstract (fin):Työssä käsitellään tieliikennemelua: rengas- ja päällystemelua sekä tieliikennemelun laskentamalleja.
Pääpaino oli hiljaisten päällysteiden vaikutuksella rengasmeluun.
Melua tutkittiin sekä mittauksin että mallilaskennoin.
Melun mittaukset tehtiin ohiajomenetelmällä.
Nykyisen ja uuden sukupolven laskentamallien tuloksia verrattiin sekä keskenään että mitattuihin tuloksiin.

Mittaustuloksien perusteella hiljaiset päällysteet ovat talvella yhtä äänekkäitä kuin referenssinä olleet tavalliset päällysteet.
Kesällä hiljainen päällyste oli 2-3 dB hiljaisempi kuin referenssipäällyste.
Uuden sukupolven Nord2000-laskentamalli osoittautui merkittävästi tarkemmaksi kuin nykyinen vuoden 1996 pohjoismainen laskentamalli.
Nykyisessä laskentamallissa henkilöautojen meluemissio sekä maavaimennus ovat liian pienet.
Tulevissakin laskentamalleissa alkuperäiset emissiotasot ovat liian pienet.
Niiden kanssa tulisi Suomessa käyttää sopivia korjaustermejä, jotka ottavat huomioon Suomen teiden ja/tai autokannan poikkeavuuden.
Tulevia laskentamalleja silmälläpitäen tässä työssä tutkittiin myös rengasmelun mahdollista suuntaavuutta yläviistoon, ja tulos oli, ettei sitä esiinny merkittävästi vakioliikenteen tilanteessa.
