Abstract (eng): | In this thesis, an electrical model is developed for dye solar cells and the model is applied to the design of dye solar cells. Compared to traditional silicon solar cells, which demand crystalline silicon with high purity, dye solar cells are cost-effective and easy to manufacture. However, many improvements have to be made before dye solar cells can attain any market share and also the physics of dye solar cells needs further investigation. Solar cells can be modelled with electrical equivalent circuits. The current- voltage characteristics, that is the equation for the I-V curve, are derived for silicon solar cells from a simple diode equivalent circuit. For dye solar cells this diode circuit is not adequate, but the circuit used in electrochemical impedance measurements (EIS) is more appropriate. In EIS model, the interfaces are mod- elled with parallel connections of resistances and capacitances. In this thesis, the I-V curve of dye solar cells is constructed from the EIS equivalent circuit. With the obtained model, the effect of different cell parameters on the I-V curve and the efficiency of the cell is investigated. With this method it is possible to attain further information about which type of materials are most suitable as dye solar cell components and how the performance of dye solar cells can be optimised. |
Abstract (fin): | Työssä tutkitaan väriaineherkistettyjen aurinkokennojen mallintamista ja sovelletaan mallia väriainekennojen suunnitteluun. |
