You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): The objective of the thesis is to plan and incorporate the Repair Assessment Program defined by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) published rule, "24108 Federal Register/Vol. 65 No. 80/Tuesday, April 25, 2000/Rules and regulations".
The actual work instructions are published by the aircraft manufacturer, "DC10/KC-10 Aging Aircraft Repair Assessment Program Document", and are suitable for aircraft operator use.
The older repairs are of concern, since the repair instructions have been evolved, but the existing repairs have stayed on place.
The Repair Assessment Program will introduce the Damage Tolerant philosophy to existing repairs.
The basic idea is to use repetitive inspections to find cracks before they reach the critical size.

The assessment is done to four DC-10-40 freighters converted from passenger aircraft and operated by Aeroflot Cargo.
The aircraft are registered as VP-BDE, VP-BDF, VP-BDG and VP-BDH.
The aircraft have about thirty years of service behind and have numerous repairs on their pressurized fuselage.

Approximately 30 percent of the repairs found on the fuselage skin needed further attention.
Although the findings did not meet current requirements, no evident danger to flight safety was found.
The structures were intact with no need for immediate actions.
However, the corrections were done due to the short 24 month period allowed to accomplish the program.
Abstract (fin): Tämän diplomityön tarkoituksena on suunnitella ja toteuttaa Yhdysvaltojen ilmailuviranomaisen (FAA) vaatima pakollinen ikääntyvien lentokoneiden painerungon korjauksien kertaluontoinen tarkastusohjelma.
Ohjelman perustana on FAA:n julkaisu "24108 Federal Register/Vol. 65 No. 80/Tuesday, April 25,2000/Rules and regulations", ja tämän viranomaismääräyksen pohjalta lentokonevalmistajan kehittämä operaattoreille tarkoitettu "DC- 10/ KC- 10 Aging Aircraft Repair Assessment Program Document" ohjeistus.
Ohjelma laajentaa jo pitkään käytössä olleen vaurioita sietävän "Damage Tolerant" ajattelun myös vanhoihin korjauksiin.
Perusajatuksena on löytää toistuvilla tarkastuksilla alkavat vauriot ennen niiden kasvamista vaarallisen suuriksi.

Työn kohteena on Aeroflot Cargon neljä DC-10-40 tyyppistä rahtikoneiksi muutettua entistä matkustajalentokonetta rekisteritunnuksiltaan VP-BDE, VP-BDF, VP-BDG ja VP-BDH.
Koneiden noin kolmenkymmenen palvelusvuoden aikana syntyneet vauriot on korjattu vaihtelevin menetelmin, ja ohjeiden uudistuessa vanhat korjaukset usein jäänet sellaisenaan paikoilleen.

Tutkimukseen osallistuneiden koneiden painerungon korjauksista havaittiin noin 30 prosentissa toimenpiteisiin johtaneita poikkeamia.
Vaikka havaitut puutteet olivat selvästi nykyohjeistuksen vastaisia, varsinaisesti lentoturvallisuutta vaarantavia löydöksiä ei tehty.
Rakenteet olivat kaikin osin ehjiä ja välittömiin toimenpiteisiin ei olisi ollut tarvetta.
Ohjelman antama kahden vuoden siirtymäaika koettiin kuitenkin niin lyhyeksi, että puutteet korjattiin pääasiassa heti.
