| Abstract (eng): | The subject of my Master's thesis was to design a production hall and an office building using timber construction to Kuhmo's Kantola industrial area. The hall was an assignment from Woodpolis. The main idea of the hall was to provide office and production space for newly founded timber companies. Both companies and private persons could use the office building as their training centre. The new Woodpolis hall consists of a production hall, social facilities, a class room and an exhibition hall. In the courtyard of the hall there is space for loading trucks and waste, storage for timber products, and place for parking. All parts, such as parking, the production hall and the office building, are covered under the same roof because of the small space of the site. The roof combines all functions together, and at the same time the visual appearance of the hall becomes more peaceful. The building materials of the hall will be produced in an existing, nearby Woodpolis hall. The machines and possibilities of the existing hall were the starting point when designing structures and dimensions for the new hall. The visual look of the hall and office building was to be a new landmark for the whole industrial area. The building itself would also work as an example for the visitors and customers of the production possibilities and methods of Woodpolis. In addition to designing the production hall, I discuss the meaning of the skin, building envelope and structure in the field of architecture. Floor area: 3900 m2. |
| Abstract (fin): | Diplomityöni aiheena oli suunnitella tilaustyönä puurakenteinen tuotanto- ja toimistorakennus Kuhmon Kantolan teollisuusalueelle. Woodpolis -hallin tarkoitus olisi tarjota uusille puualan yrityksille tuotanto- ja toimistotilaa. Rakennuksessa olisi tarkoitus järjestää koulutustapahtumia yrityksille ja yksityishenkilöille. Uusi suunnittelemani Woodpolis-halli koostuu tuotantotiloista, sosiaalitiloista sekä koulutus- ja näyttelytiloista. Lisäksi pihalle sijoitetaan lastaustilat, purunpoistosiilo, jätehuone, puutavaran varastointitilat sekä paikoituskatokset. Paikoitustilat, jätekatos, tuotantotila ja toimisto-osa on katettu ja jäsennelty saman katon alle Tontin pienen koon vuoksi tämä rauhoitti yleisilmettä sekä kasasi toiminnot yhteen. Rakennuksen materiaalit on tarkoitus työstää olemassa olevassa, lähellä sijaitsevassa Woodpoliksen tuotantotilassa. Hallin konekanta toi lähtökohdan puurakenteiden suunnittelulle ja rakenteiden mitoitukselle. Rakennuksen arkkitehtonisen ilmeen toivottiin muodostavan teollisuusalueelle arkkitehtuuriltaan näyttävän ja puurakentamisen mahdollisuuksia sekä Woodpoliksen toimintaa esittelevän maamerkin. Tuotantotilaan liittyvän suunnittelutehtävän lisäksi pohdin kirjallisessa osassa rakennuksen kuoren, vaipan ja rakenteen merkityksiä ja ominaisuuksia arkkitehtuurissa. Kerrosala: 3900 m2. |
