Reading digital theses in the closed network of the Aalto University Harald Herlin Learning Centre

You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): Broadcast nature of the wireless channel enables wireless communications to make use of network coding at the physical layer (PNC) to improve the network capacity.
Recently, narrowband and later broadband wireless analog network coding (ANC) were introduced as a simpler implementation of PNC.
The coherent detection and self-information removal in all the above mentioned schemes requires the knowledge of channel state information (CSI).

In this thesis, the theoretical bit error rate (BER) performance analysis with imperfect knowledge of CSI for broadband ANC based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is presented.
We derive the BER expressions for bi-directional broadband ANC with taking into consideration the errors due to channel estimation and imperfect self-information removal.
The effect of time selectivity and a polynomial interpolation scheme is also studied to evaluate its effect on the system performance.

It was shown that the BER performance is not affected by imperfect self information removal for low user mobility.
On the other hand, the BER performance gains for high user mobility where shown with polynomial interpolation.
Abstract (fin): Broadcast -luontoinen langaton kanava mahdollistaa fyysisen tason verkkokoodauksen (PNC) käytön langattomassa viestinnässä verkkokapasiteetin parantamiseksi.
Kapea- ja myöhemmin laajakaistainen analoginen verkkokoodaus on esitelty PNC:tä yksinkertaisempana toteutuksena käytettäväksi fyysisen tason verkkokoodaukseen.
Kaikki yllämainitut verkkokoodausperiaatteet vaativat koherenttiin ilmaisuun sekä itseisinformaation poistamiseen tiedon kanavan tilasta (CSI).

Tässä diplomityössä esitetään teoreettinen bittivirhesuhdeanalyysi ortogonaaliseen taajuudenjakokanavointiin (OFDM) pohjautuvalle laajakaistaiselle ANC:lie, kun tieto kanavan tilasta on epätarkka.
Bittivirhesuhteen (BER) kaavat johdetaan kaksisuuntaiselle laajakaistaiselle ANC:lle ottaen huomioon epätarkan kanavaestimoinnin ja itseisinformaation poistamisen läsnäolo.
Lopuksi analysoidaan aikaselektiivisyyden ja polynomisen interpolaation vaikutus järjestelmän suorituskykyyn.

Tuloksista huomataan, ettei epätarkka itseisinformaation poisto vaikuta bittivirhesuhteeseen huomattavasti liikkuvuuden ollessa hidasta.
Estimoimalla kanavaa polynomisella interpoloinnilla nähdään, että on mahdollista saavuttaa siedettävä suorituskyky myös liikkuvuuden ollessa nopeaa.
