Abstract (eng): The goal of this Master's thesis was to research possible ways to improve ethylene gain of acetylene hydrogenation reactors at a steam cracker.
In the reactors, acetylene formed in the cracking process is hydrogenated to ethylene.
In the theoretical part of the thesis the reactions, reaction conditions and the possible adjustments to these were investigated and what kind of effect would they have on the process.
Also possibilities related to catalyst use and choice of catalyst was studied.

In the experimental part the reactors were simulated with Honeywell UniSim dynamic simulator.
The feed temperature and hydrocarbon/hydrogen ratio were changed the effect on the ethylene gain studied.
Based on the simulations lower feed temperatures and slightly higher hydrogen ratio could be beneficial for the ethylene gain.

The greatest improvement to the ethylene gain could be achieved by through catalyst comparison and proper procurement methods.
Also the green oil formation in the reactors should be studied more as it is causing system fouling.
Abstract (fin): Tämän diplomityön tarkoituksena oli tutkia mahdollisia keinoja parantaa höyrykrakkerin asetyleenikonverttereiden eteenisaantoa.
Asetyleenikonverttereissa prosessissa syntynyt asetyleeni vedytetään eteeniksi.
Työn teoriaosassa perehdyttiin tarkemmin reaktoreissa tapahtuviin reaktioihin sekä prosessiolosuhteisiin ja kuinka näitä muuttamalla voitaisiin parantaa reaktoreiden käyttäytymistä.
Lisäksi tutkittiin erilaisia katalyyttivaihtoehtoja sekä niihin liittyviä ongelmia.

Työn kokeellisessa osassa simuloitiin muutamia erilaisia prosessiolosuhteiden muutoksia Honeywellin UniSim -simulointiohjelmalla.
