Abstract (eng): | The field of nanoelectronics has gained significant interest in the past decades. Now that the field has matured, new questions such as the role of heat transport and fluctuations in these nanostructures have become interesting. Superconducting materials are often used as building blocks in nanoelectronic systems. Examples include superconducting qubits, ultrasensitive radiation detectors, nanosized thermometers and single-electron transistors. In all of these applications, stochastic fluctuations of physical observables such as electric and heat current, temperature and number of quasiparticles play a mostly harmful role since they inhibit the desired behaviour of these devices. In this thesis, I extend previous work done on out of equilibrium thermodynamic fluctuations in different kinds of nanoelectronic devices. I study the temperature, energy, and quasiparticle fluctuations in a superconductor coupled to an environment which can either be phonons of the lattice or a normal metal electric circuit. I review the theory used in the calculations and apply it to this system. I study different limits such as the ones where the environment is at a very low temperature or close to the transition temperature of the superconductor. |
Abstract (fin): | Nanoelektroniikka tieteenalana on viime vuosikymmeninä saavuttanut valtavan suosion. |
