Abstract (eng): | The aim of the thesis is to present modelling bases for different cooling tower types; dry, wet and hybrid. Working principles and heat transfer mechanisms of these towers are introduced based on literature survey. Thesis is made as a part of Fortum Power and Heat Oy's cooling tower project in which four cooling tower units will be built to the Loviisa NPP. Modelling of the towers is done with Apros simulation software. The Apros software, owned by Fortum and VTT, is developed for modelling nuclear power plants. At Fortum, Apros is used for process and safety analysis, power plant design, operator training, I&C testing and control room design. Thesis presents modelling basis and simulation model for cooling towers of Loviisa NPP. The simulation model can be used for heat transfer analysis and prediction in different operation situations and weather conditions. Cooling tower units in Loviisa NPP are a part of an emergency cooling system, which is used when primary heat sink, sea water, is lost. Cooling towers are used for dissipating the decay heat from the reactor and spent fuel. The created dry cooling tower model is validated by comparing to tower suppliers design points and performance curve. The simulation results show that Apros is well suitable for dry cooling tower modelling. Thesis presents the modifications made for Apros concerning heat transfer in finned tube heat exchangers. The later part of the thesis presents the modelling bases of wet and hybrid cooling towers. The study is focused on wet typed counter flow cooling towers, in which heat transfer is based on convection and evaporation. The potential of Apros in wet cooling tower modelling is evaluated based on most common numerical methods and self-built Apros models. Apros lacks features concerning the accurate modelling of air and water counter flow and the modelling of enhanced heat transfer in wet cooling tower. The thesis presents development proposals which are based either on known stationary numerical models or the existing dynamic two-phase model of Apros. |
Abstract (fin): | Diplomityön tavoitteena on selvittää mallinnusperusteet erityyppisille jäähdytystorneille; kuiva, märkä ja hybridi. Kirjallisuusselvityksen pohjalta on tarkasteltu tornien tärkeimpiä komponentteja sekä lämmönsiirtomekanismeja. Työ on toteutettu osana Fortum Power and Heat Oy:n jäähdytystorniprojektia, jossa rakennetaan neljä jäähdytystorniyksikköä Loviisan ydinvoimalaan. Tulosten perusteella Apros soveltuu kuivan jäähdytystornin mallinnukseen hyvin. Aprosiin on tehty jäähdytystornimallin vaatimat muutokset koskien lämmönsiirtoa rivoitetuissa putkinipuissa. Muutokset on esitelty ja validoitu työssä. Aprosin soveltuvuutta tarkastellaan märkien ja hybriditornien mallinnukseen. Mallinnusperusteet ja tornien konfiguraatiot on selvitetty kirjallisuusselvityksen perusteella. Työssä keskitytään konvektioon ja haihdutukseen perustuviin vastavirtajäähdytystorneihin. Aprosin potentiaalia märän tornin mallinnukseen on arvioitu yleisesti käytettyjen laskentamenetelmien ja esimerkkimallien perusteella. Selvityksen perusteella Apros nähdään ohjelmistona, jolla märän tornin lämmönsiirto voidaan mallintaa kun työssä esiintuodut kehityskohteet huomioidaan. Työssä on esitelty Aprosin kehitysvaihtoehdot hyödyntäen joko tunnettuja stationaarisen tilan numeerisia malleja tai Aprosin olemassa olevaa dynaamista kaksifaasilaskentaa. |
