Abstract (eng):The purpose of this thesis was to create a holistic and user friendly tool for the forest biorefinery concept modeling, based on the Future Pulp Mill model (FUPU).
It is a WinGEMS based pulp mill model created in a joint venture within the Finnish Bioeconomy Cluster.

The new sales tool has an Excel interface synchronized to WinGEMS.
It consists of inputs, key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial evaluation sheets.
In addition, simulation cases for improved bark removal, pre-hydrolysis Kraft pulping, polysulfide-anthraquinone cook with extended oxygen delignification, lignin separation by precipitation, syngas fired lime kiln, and ash leaching were incorporated to FUPU balance.
Also pulp mill non-process elements were added.

The effects of process modifications to KPIs and departmental capacities were identified to be in line with expert views and literature values.
The accuracy of the model can be improved by adding a secondary heat and water -balance and by simplifying the evaporation model.
Furthermore, the sales tool should be benchmarked against the current pulp mill balance spreadsheets.
Abstract (fin):Tämän diplomityön tavoitteena oli rakentaa kattava ja helppokäyttöinen työkalu metsäbiojalostamoiden konseptisuunnittelua varten.
Työ pohjautuu Finnish Bioeconomy Cluster Oy:n (FIBIC) alaisessa yhteisprojektissa kehitettyyn Tulevaisuuden sellutehdas malliin (FUPU).
