Abstract (eng):Long Term Evolution (LTE) is the enhancement to 3G and GSM cellular system that has been in use for over a decade.
LTE was introduced to satisfy the increasing demand of the market with fast, reliable and cost effective implementation.
LTE delivers the results with its new air interface based technology (OFDMA/Sc-FDMA), flexible spectrum support up to 20MHz as well as support for the new technologies such as MIMO and higher order modulation schemes.
Equally, there is exponential growth in the mobile traffic and enhancement to LTE are required to fit the next generation mobile network set by ITU-Advanced. 3GPP named the advancement to LTE as LTE-Advanced.
LTE-A uses the same air interfaces as LTE and is backward compatible.
Enhancements in LTE-A such as operators can use the wider frequency band up to 100 MHZ through carrier aggregation, increasing the peak data rate and capacity by using higher order antenna schemes (e-MIMO), cell edge performance improved by using COMP and coverage by Relay Nodes and HETNETS.
This advancement to the cellular networks has produced remarkable changes, but still there is a need for more improvement.
In this thesis there is a detailed review of some of the technologies that are included as the study item for LTE, LTE advanced and 5G cellular networks such as Hyper Dense networks.
Machine Type communication and Device to Device communication, which can enhance the performance of the current network.
The basic purpose of these technologies is to provide Higher throughput, reliability, better utilization of spectrum and higher QoS.
