Abstract (eng): | EEG, i.e., electroencephalogram provides a tool for diagnosis of neurological diseases, such as epilepsy. However, EEG recording contains artifacts, i.e., disturbance in a signal not originating from the brain which reduces the performance of automatic diagnosis. Patient's movements produce pulling forces to the electrodes placed on the scalp shown as movement artifacts in the EEG signal. In this work, an accelerometer is utilized to detect movement artifacts from the EEG signal. Movement in the accelerometer signal and potentially resulting movement artifacts in the EEG signal are defined as changes in signals' stationarities. The developed algorithm is based on autoregressive modeling and the change in stationarity is shown as an increase of model's prediction error. It will be shown that movement artifacts can be detected automatically. Parameters derived from the EEG signal will work similarly as an indicator of the encephalopathy level whether the movement artifacts are detected automatically by the algorithm or manually by an expert. The developed algorithm proved to be promising and so it can be considered to be applied commercially in the future. |
Abstract (fin): | Aivosähkökäyrän avulla voidaan diagnosoida neurologisia sairauksia kuten epilepsiaa. |
