Abstract (eng): | This thesis discusses about the archiving of the electronic source data collected in clinical drug research. The practical part of the thesis introduces an application component that implements the source data archiving functionalities. Electronic source data is regulated by multiple authority parties. Guidelines are given by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States, European Medicinal Evaluation Agency and European Union in the Europe and National Agency for Medicines in Finland. This thesis will discuss how the guidelines and regulations affect the electronic source data and particularly archiving of it for later inspections. This thesis will also focus on CDISC Operational Data Model which is XML-based data format for storing and interchanging clinical data. The ODM data format can be used for the archiving purposes also. Third focus area is the XML (Extensible Markup Language) query languages. Thesis compares the basic characteristics of the languages and analyses the suitability of the languages for the problem area. The main focus is to discuss how the XML transforming language XSLT implements the queries compared to the pure XML query languages such as XQuery. |
Abstract (fin): | Tässä diplomityössä tarkastellaan kliinisessä lääketutkimuksessa kerättävän elektronisen tutkimustiedon arkistointia. Käytännön työnä esitellään sovelluskomponentti, joka toteuttaa arkistoinnin. Elektronisen tutkimustiedon käsittelyä säätelevät useat viranomaistahot kuten yhdysvaltalainen FDA, Euroopan lääkevirasto EMEA sekä Euroopan unioni. Suomessa säätelyä ja valvontaa harjoittaa Lääkelaitos. Työssä syvennytään näiden määräysten luomiin vaikutuksiin tutkimustietoon ja erityisesti tiedon arkistointiin myöhempiä tarkasteluja varten. Työssä syvennytään myös XML-pohjaiseen CDISC Operational Data Model (ODM) -määritykseen. ODM on suunniteltu erityisesti kliinisen tutkimustiedon tallentamiseen ja yhteiseksi formaatiksi tiedon siirtämiseen järjestelmästä toiseen. ODM-määritystä voidaan käyttää myös tutkimustiedon arkistointiformaattina. Kolmantena syventymisalueena käsitellään XML-kyselykieliä ja vertaillaan niiden ominaisuuksia. Erityistä huomiota kiinnitetään siihen, kuinka XML-pohjaisen tiedon käsittelyyn suunniteltu XSLT toteuttaa kyselyt verrattaessa puhtaisiin XML kyselykieliin kuten XQueryyn. |
