Abstract (eng): | Optical contact angle measurement devices are used in several industrial research and development applications, for example food, packaging and painting. Advancing and receding angles can be measured by tilting the surface on which the drop is positioned. These angles can be defined as function of time by tilting the sample surface during measurement. The purpose of this master's thesis is to design a tilting cradle for the CAM 200 contact angle measurement device. The resolution of this tilting cradle must be at least 0.1 degrees and it should be easily integrated with the existing CAM 200 device. Tilting cradle should be strong and sturdy, but still cheap enough. It should not disturb or prevent the everyday use of CAM 200 and its switches or adjustment knobs. Product development was carried out according to the process described in the book Product Design and Development, by Ulrich and Eppinger. First a few concepts were generated to fulfil the demands. In the next phase the concepts were evaluated and in the last phase the best concept was developed into a product. The winning concept was chosen mainly because of s simplicity. The risks for failure were much smaller than with the more complex concept. Because the concept contained only quite common and simple structures, the prototyping phase could be left out completely. The safety of the use turned out to be very important part of the design process. The chosen motor with the suitable power transmission created such a big torque, that some limitation was needed in order to keep the devise safe enough. The outcome of the design process was a product which fulfils the technical demands and is convincing enough to be sold with the CAM 200 optical contact angle measurement device. |
Abstract (fin): | Optisella kontaktikulmamittalaitteella tutkitaan nestepisaran ja kiinteän aineen välisen kontaktikulman suuruutta. Mikäli pisara sijaitsee kaltevalla pinnalla, saadaan mitattua erisuuruiset kulmat tulo- ja jättöpuolella. Kallistamalla pintaa mittauksen aikana voidaan kulman suuruus määrittää ajan funktiona. |
