Reading digital theses in the closed network of the Aalto University Harald Herlin Learning Centre

You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the effects which could be achieved when implementing a digital asset management system in a distance sales company, especially the effects to the processes and the process quality.

In the literature survey processes and process quality are examined.
The current situation and trends of marketing and especially direct marketing and management and lifecycle of digital assets are studied.
Digital asset management systems are introduced: what they are and what kind of opportunities can arise to a company when implementing a digital asset management system.

In the empirical part of the thesis the target company's catalogue production and publishing processes were investigated.
First the employees of the marketing department were interviewed.
Based on these interviews three processes were modelled: catalogue production process, image process and text process.
After implementing the digital asset management system the same roles were interviewed and the same processes were modelled again.
Conclusions about the impact of the implementation were drawn by comparing the old and the new process models and the results of the interviews.
The results were also compared to the theory presented in the literature survey.

Implementing a digital asset management system was profitable since remarkable time and cost savings were achieved in some processes and parts of the processes.
The theory and the practice did meet quite well and the process quality was improved after the implementation.
However, there are also some process parts that should be investigated for further development.
Abstract (fin): Tämän työn aiheena on digitaalisen aineistonhallintajärjestelmän käyttöönotto etämyyntiyrityksessä.
Työssä tutkittiin, millaisia vaikutuksia aineistonhallintajärjestelmällä on prosesseihin ja prosessilaatuun.

Kirjallisuusosassa perehdytään prosesseihin ja prosessilaatuun, markkinoinnin ja erityisesti suoramainonnan ja etämyynnin nykytilaan ja trendeihin sekä digitaalisen aineiston hallintaan ja elinkaareen.
Työssä tutustutaan digitaalisiin aineistonhallintajärjestelmiin, mitä niillä tarkoitetaan ja millaisia mahdollisuuksia tällaisen järjestelmän käyttöönotto tarjoaa yrityksille.

Kokeellisessa osassa tutustutaan kohdeyrityksen kuvastotuotantoon ja sen prosesseihin.
Kohdeyrityksen markkinointiosaston työntekijöitä haastateltiin ja haastattelujen perusteella mallinnettiin luettelotuotannon kokonaisprosessi, kuvaprosessi ja tekstiprosessi ennen aineistonhallintajärjestelmäprojektin aloitusta.
Projektin päättymisen jälkeen samat roolit haastateltiin uudelleen ja mallinnettiin uudet prosessit.
Näiden tulosten perusteella vedettiin johtopäätöksiä siitä, millaisia vaikutuksia järjestelmän käyttöönotolla oli kohdeyrityksen toimintaan ja kuinka hyvin saavutetut tulokset vastaavat teoriaa.

Tulosten perusteella voidaan sanoa, että digitaalisen aineistonhallintajärjestelmän käyttöönotto kannatti, sen avulla saavutettiin huomattavia aika- ja kustannussäästöjä joissakin prosesseissa ja prosessien osissa.
Kaiken kaikkiaan teorian ja käytännön voidaan sanoa kohtaavan melko hyvin ja prosessilaadun parantuneen digitaalisen aineistonhallintajärjestelmän käyttöönoton myötä.
Joitakin prosessin osia kannattaa kuitenkin vielä tutkia jatkokehitystä varten.
