Abstract (eng): | Texturing of solid objects is a regular part of the design of plastic products. Traditional texturing methods involve use of hazardous chemicals and custom tools that have to be manufactured for each new texture application. The range of texture patterns is often limited, and creating new patterns has significant costs. This work reviews digital texturing techniques that are used in computer graphics, especially displacement mapping. The possibilities of using these techniques in computer-aided manufacturing are studied. A novel algorithm is introduced for producing triangulated models of textured surfaces by adaptive displacement mapping. The new adaptive displacement method is capable of producing displacement mapped surfaces within a specified tolerance using a significantly smaller number of primitives, and it is well suited for application to laser ablation, rapid prototyping or other suitable manufacturing methods. Results of experiments with laser ablation are presented. |
Abstract (fin): | Kiinteiden esineiden teksturointi on muovituotteiden muotoilussa tavanomainen toimenpide. Perinteisissä teksturointimenetelmissä käytetään haitallisia kemikaaleja ja niihin tarvitaan tarkoitusta varten valmistettuja työkaluja. Kuviovalikoima on usein rajoittunut, ja uusien kuvioiden käyttöönotto tuottaa merkittäviä kustannuksia. Tässä työssä tutkitaan tietokonegrafiikassa käytettäviä digitaalisia teksturointimenetelmiä ja niiden soveltuvuutta tietokoneavusteisen valmistuksen vaatimien mallien tuottamiseen. Työssä esitellään uusi menetelmä, jolla voidaan tuottaa riittävän tarkkoja kolmioituja malleja teksturoiduista pinnoista käyttämällä adaptiivista siirtymäkuvausta (displacement mapping). Menetelmän avulla voidaan tuottaa pintamalleja annetun tarkkuuden rajoissa. |
