Abstract (eng): | Modular product architectures have brought many benefits for the performance of companies. Modular product architecture offers advantages in many fields, for example in product development, manufacturing and maintenance. The products that are large and have a lot of subsystems are very complex when it comes to managing these fields. These products are also very complex when it comes to delivering the product to the customer or managing the sourcing of the components. Companies with global supply chains have well-defined processes in order to manage the deliveries from the suppliers to the factories and furthermore to the customer. Modular product architecture simplifies these processes by hiding the complexity of the products. Yet, modularity is usually considered as a tool for efficient mass customization. The objective of this thesis is to do a current state analysis of product modularity at the elevator company KONE. The focus is on researching the utilization of product modularity for deliveries and in customization process. In this study, by analyzing the current modularity, it was noticed that the current modules do not comply with the theories of modularity that are presented in product development literature. However, these modules are needed for managing the deliveries but they are not adaptable for customization. These modules should be developed for the needs of the delivery process. These modules need proper management for their development. Their contents and handling should be harmonized globally. There is an opportunity for decreasing lead times and costs of delivery by establishing modular structures within these current modules. These modules should be controlled at the product level in order to control the deliveries of whole products. By adapting a mass customization process in all of the modules; the production control becomes more efficient. |
Abstract (fin): | Modulaariset tuotearkkitehtuurit ovat tuoneet monia hyötyjä yrityksien toimintaan. Modulaarinen tuotearkkitehtuuri yksinkertaistaa näitä prosesseja piilottamalla tuotteen monimutkaisuutta. Usein modulaarisuutta kuitenkin ajatellaan massaräätälöinnin työkaluna. Tämän diplomityön tarkoituksena on tehdä nykytila-analyysi tuotteen modulaarisuudesta hissiyritys KONE:lla. Moduulien hallintaa tulisi kehittää, jotta moduuleja voitaisiin parantaa. Moduulien sisältö ja niiden käsittely tulisi harmonisoida globaalisti. Näihin moduuleihin rakennettu modulaarinen arkkitehtuuri mahdollistaisi läpimenoaikojen ja toimituskustannusten pienentämisen. Näitä moduuleita tulisi hallita tuotetasolla, jotta kokonaisten tuotteiden toimitusta voitaisiin ohjata paremmin. Jos kaikissa moduuleissa käytettäisiin hyväksi massaräätälöintiperiaatteita, tuotannon ohjaus parantuisi. |
